Hunter Ports Women’s Classic to get underway Newcastle harbour

Newcastle, NSW, Australia, Saturday 23rd February, 2013.

SURFING in the quarter-finals of the Hunter Ports Women’s Classic will start proceedings in today’s surfing action at Newcastle harbour.

Action is scheduled to commence between 9.30am and 10am.

Updates will be available through the  Surfest Twitter feed and a live webcast will be available at Surfest.com.

The public are advised that access beyond the Nobbys lighthouse is restricted due to safety concerns.

The public are urged to watch the event via webcast or from the Stockton break wall.

South-easterly winds were gusting between 50 and 60 knots at Nobbys Head at 9.25am.

The waves on offer are up to 2 metres and look set to provide some epic tube-riding opportunities for some of the world’s best surfers –  including world number two and defending event champion Sally Fitzgibbons.

Fitzgibbons is scheduled to surf in the third heat of the morning.
